BLMA: Standard of Bending Radius of Tube Bending
2020-04-01

Today let's talk about standard of bending radius when bending pipe?

First, one tube corresponds to one mold. For a pipe, no matter how many bends, regardless of the bend angle (which should not be greater than 180 °), the bend radius is best to be uniform. Since one pipe corresponds to one mold, what is the proper bending radius for pipes with different diameter specifications? The minimum bending radius depends on the material characteristics, the bending angle, the allowable amount of thinning on the outside of the pipe wall after bending, the size of the inner wrinkle, and the size of the ellipse at the bend. Generally speaking, the minimum bending radius should not be less than 2 to 2.5 times the outer diameter of the pipe. For the ducts of airplanes or engines, because the various pipes pass through a limited space inside and outside, it is advisable to use a smaller bending radius of the pipes. The small bending radius can make the shape of the tube flexible and adaptable. For large-diameter engines and large aircraft, a slightly larger bending radius can be selected when the pipelines are relatively loosely arranged. Because a large bending radius is good for cnc tube bender bending and forming, it is good for curved pipes.

Second, multiple tubes use one mold. The so-called multi-tube and one die means that the pipes with the same diameter specification should use the same bending radius as much as possible. That is, different shapes of tubes are bent using the same set of molds. Only in this way can it be conducive to compressing the special process equipment to the maximum extent, reducing the manufacturing volume of the bending die, and thereby reducing the production cost. In general, the use of only one bend radius for pipes of the same diameter specification may not necessarily meet the assembly needs of the actual location. Therefore, pipes of the same diameter can be selected from 2 to 4 bending radii to meet actual needs. If the bending radius is 2D (here D is the outer diameter of the pipe), then 2D, 2.5D, 3D, 4D can be used. Of course, the ratio of this bending radius is not fixed and should be selected according to the actual situation of the aircraft or engine, but the radius should not be too large. The specification of the pipe bending machine radius should not be too much, otherwise the benefits brought by multiple tubes and one mold will be lost.

One tube uses the same bending radius (one tube and one mold) and standardized bending radius of multiple tubes (multi-tube and one mold). This is the current feature and general trend of foreign catheter design and modeling. It is mechanized and automated The inevitable result of replacing manual labor is also a combination of design adaptation to advanced processing technology and advanced processing technology to promote design cnc bending machine.
